StrongMan Champions from Strongman Corp

The arrival of the Strongman

Sheru Aangrish :

With the Sheru Classic 2016, India will see its first ever strongman competition. The reason behind organizing such an exceptional event is the fact that India as a nation is yet to produce its Strongman. Indians have embraced the profession of bodybuilding, wrestling, weightlifting and powerlifting with an undying passion and yet we still don’t have a Pro Strongman among our athletes. The most prominent reason for this is the lack of correct exposure. Indian athletes are still struggling to get onto a stage that justifies their caliber and talent. It is for this reason that Sheru Classic is coming up with this Amateur India’s Strongman Competition.

For this Sheru Classic has joined hands with Strongman Co-operation based in United States and have become the official promoters of the Strongman Competition in India.  Strongman Corp is the platform on which big athletes Athletes such as Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, Eddie Hall, Brain Shaw have competed and made name for themselves in the world. With this collaboration between Strongman Corp and Sheru Classic,  Indian athletes will finally get a platform through which they can fulfill their dreams and become pro strongman and professionals.

How did it start?

Sheru Aangrish :

It all started a few months back when I was contacted by none other than Dione Wessels – CEO and President of the Strongman Co-operation United States. She mentioned that she has heard a lot about Sheru Classic and the Strongman Co-op would love to affiliate with us to promote the strongman event here in India. This set the ground for India’s first Strongman competition. To get a call from Dione Wessels was a feat in itself. She is a former record holder and a power lifter, national champion in strong woman and division 1 Track athlete. Currently, she is heading the ASC (American Strongman Co-operation) – the Pro-Strongman National Governing Body as well as the NAS (North American Strongman Incorporated) – the amateur arm of the strongman division. Thus, she is  leading both the pro and the amateur division of Strongman since the year 2001. Being recognised by such a competent athlete was a big accolade for us.

About ASC and NAS

Strongman Corporation

The strongman competition largely is broken down to two segments Pro and Amateur. These two divisions are governed by two different bodies namely ASC and NAS both of which are overlooked by Dione Wessels.

America Strongman Co-operation (ASC) – Pro Strongman Competition:

This is the only sanctioning and governing body for the Pro Strongman in the United States. It provides American athletes with the newer opportunities by holding various Strongman Events across the United States each year. By joining hands with Sheru Classic in India, ASC is attempting to set up similar platforms for the Indian athletes.

The major events that are organized by ASC include America’s Strongest Man, The Olympia Strongman Challenge, The US Nationals, Pro Am and the Platinum-Plus Series. Along with NAS, it has also devised an Amateur-to-professional system that allows the aspiring athletes to flourish and gain experience as Amateurs and yet have sufficient opportunities to compete at the Pro events sanctioned by ASC.

ASC ensures that American athletes, be it within US or abroad, get a competent platforms to perform. With ASC now in India, the future for Indian bodybuilders seems rather bright.

North American Strongman Incorporated (NAS) – Amateur strongman Competition:

This is the governing body for the Amateur Strongman Competition not only in the United States but all across the world. They provide numerous platforms for the members to compete on. With a fair treatment to all the athletes, they give the masses the true amateur champion.

American Strongman Co-operation and North American Strongman Incorporated together have 44 affiliates in the United States and 26 affiliates located internationally. India has joined in as the 27th international affiliate. Readers can check this out at events section on the Strongman corporation website.
